Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does NVLA do?
NVLA offer a full range of personalised landscape architectural services from design and 3D modelling through to onsite advice. We specialise in crafting bespoke outdoor environments that elevate our client’s lifestyle and enjoyment of their property. Our expertise encompasses the integration of hardscape elements like walkways, patios, pools, and outdoor living spaces, as well as thoughtful consideration of elements such as planting design and sustainability practices. Additionally, we take pride in designing bespoke features and furniture to seamlessly enhance and complement these outdoor spaces.
  • How will I be involved in the landscape design process?
The level of your involvement is entirely up to you. You have the flexibility to choose how much or how little you want to be engaged in the process. On one hand, entrusting us with a design and granting the freedom to create can lead to results that surpass your imagination and expectations. On the other hand, if you come to us with a clear vision, we welcome your collaboration. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that you are genuinely thrilled about your garden, and we want you to derive enjoyment from it for many years to come.
  • How much does a landscape plan cost?
The cost of your plan will largely depend on the size of your property and the complexity of what you are wanting to include. That is why we offer an on-site consultation to discuss your project and provide you with an offer of services.
  • Is it important to have an idea about what I like?
While not critical, it is helpful if you have an idea about some of the things that you like / don’t like. I recommend that you spend a little time on Pinterest or Houzz and gather a few images that speak to what you like. We will develop this over the course of your project. If you don’t know we can help with that too.
  • Can my plan be staged?
Your landscape concept plan will provide you with an overall vision for your garden. From here you can stage out various projects for detailing as your budget/timeframe allows. We can discuss this with you to help you make informed decisions.
  • Do you work on small projects? Do I need a plan for a small project?
Yes, we work on small projects, we love the challenges and opportunities that these spaces offer. It is just as important to plan a small space as a large property. Detailing and well-planned spaces often become more important with a small property.
  • How long does the process take?
After our initial consultation we will endeavour to get your offer of services back to you within 3-4 working days. Plans usually include a timeframe of 3-4 weeks for draft and 4-5 weeks for a final plan. These timeframes are negotiable and we are happy to discuss your specific project requirements.
  • What information do you need from me at our initial meeting?
At our initial meeting we will be discussing your project. How you want to use your property – outdoor entertaining, lounging, play, vegetable production, swimming pool, etc. Your expectations around budget - this can impact the decisions around material and elements we suggest. What level of maintenance garden are you wanting? Have you noticed any issues with your property – drainage, wind, easements, land stability etc. We will spend time getting to know your property, predominant wind, shelter, sun. Is there a particular style of garden / landscape that you like – there are a number of different styles, we can help you work through these to select a style that works with your property and lifestyle. If you have house plans these are helpful in forming base information for your project.
  • Why do I need a landscape plan?
Create a Cohesive Vision A plan will help create an overall cohesive style, sense of place, aesthetic and coordinated landscape. A well-designed space will end up being more liveable and is considerate of location, aesthetic, etc. We use 3D renders to help you visualise your project. Set Priorities and Goals for your Landscape Creating a plan will help provide an overall scheme that can be broken down and priorities set. It will allow you to work on parts of your project while staying focussed on an overall outcome and goal. Identify Potential Issues Early On and Assess Options A plan will help you work through any issues that may be foreseeable with your project. We will provide options for key spaces to help work through your property’s potential. Save Money While looking for and solving potential issues before getting started can save time, it also saves money. Landscaping problems can be expensive, but if you plan ahead, you can build a better budget for your landscaping needs.
